Nets

Many Amateur Radio clubs hold weekly nets for their members to practice their formal and informal traffic-passing skills. The club net occurs weekly on Thursdays at 7:30PM ET on VE3RKL (443.850+ CTCSS 131.8Hz) during the club year. The Net Controller schedule is listed below. We’re always looking for volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering as a Net Controller, please send a note to nets@garc.ca.

Net Preamble and Procedures:
-Is the frequency clear? (wait for confirmation)
-Nothing heard. Good evening and welcome to the Guelph Amateur Radio Club Thursday Evening Net on (repeater call) for the date (insert date here). My name is (insert name here), callsign (insert callsign here) and I will be your Net Control Station this evening. Are there any stations with Emergency or Priority Traffic? (if so, give them the frequency. If not, continue).
-This net is held every Thursday during the club year, except on week where the regular club meeting falls, as a way to disseminate information relevant to the club, practice traffic skills, and keep our radio equipment tested. I will now pause for checkins. (drop and allow people to check in)
-(once the first round of users have checked in, call them in order to address the net.)
-(after the first round has been completed) Are there any other stations wishing to check in to the Guelph Amateur Radio Club Thursday Evening Net? Come now please. (drop and allow people to check in)
-(allow those who checked in on the second round to address the net first, then call those who checked in first to go around again)
-(continue asking for checkins until none come back)
-(when you’re ready to close the net) We will now have one more pause for checkins before we close the net. (drop and allow people to check in)
-(allow everyone to address the net one last time before you close)
